Plan A Staycation Downtown at the Kimpton Schofield Hotel - The Cleveland Moms

Rich in history, the Kimpton Schofield Hotel in Downtown Cleveland is one of the humblest & most beautiful ones around. When carpenter Benjamin Schofield moved to Cleveland in 1816, it was just a tiny village of 200 residents. By the time his grandson Levi was the architect in charge of Schofield Building, the city was more than 380,000 strong, having been built, quite literally, by three generations of Schofields. They honor that legacy today, keeping many of the Victorian-era elements of the property intact & adding plants as homage to Levi’s participation in the Ark Club, an informal gathering of nature enthusiasts that eventually led to the creation of the Museum of Natural History. Levi’s love for the city lives on in the hotel, where pride, infectious warmth, and passion radiate through the space.

We were recently invited to check out the hotel to experience a one night stay & it did not disappoint.

The Kimpton Schofield is conveniently located right on East 9th Street downtown. It is across the street from the infamous historical Heinen’s which is SUPER convenient if you’re traveling with the kids. Heinen’s just added a Mitchell’s ice cream shop inside so that’s an added bonus in my book! The hotel offers valet parking with in & out privileges but the hotel is in such a great location, you might as well ditch the car & just walk. It is a very short distance to East 4th Street which has a ton of restaurants & entertainment. We just leisurely walked here & didn’t stop anywhere this time but to have this closeby is a major benefit.

Kimpton Schofield is also super close to Jack Casino if you’ve been dreaming about an ultimate date night. We also walked over to this area to visit Wahlburgers, one of my husband’s favorite restaurants. The food here is really good & it wasn’t busy at all if you’re looking for a low-key place for dinner if traveling with the entire family.

Now for the fun part – the beautiful room!

We stayed in a two queen bed room overlooking Heinen’s on the 7th floor. With super large windows, this room was fabulous! It may be a little cramped depending on the size of your family but it worked just right for us. It was well appointed with a sitting area, tv, refrigerator, & a beautiful bathroom with standing shower. The water pressure was out of this world & I appreciated that all the lights in the room (including the bathroom) were dimmable. If you travel a lot, you’ll know what a pain bright lights in the middle of night are so this was incredibly family friendly especially if you have light sleepers.

If you want to enjoy more of the hotel outside of the room, the lobby is just gorgeous. We spent time here just hanging out & enjoying the beautiful fire. My son loved the little sitting nooks. The hotel is also home to Betts – a wonderful option for dinner while staying in – they even deliver straight to your room!

Overall, we had a great time staying downtown & I’d highly recommend for either an amazing date night getaway or a family friendly staycation when you’re looking for a change of scenery/experience. They also often have special deals & promotions. One of their newest ones is Night Out at the Theater where you can not only stay at the Kimpton Schofield but also see a Cleveland Ballet show! It includes valet parking + a $50 food/beverage credit to Betts.
