Lake Metroparks will host an Earth Day celebration, a fun and family-friendly event dedicated to raising environmental awareness and inspiring sustainable action, on Sunday, April 27 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Penitentiary Glen Reservation. The event is presented by Sylvan Learning of Mentor, Aqua Doc Lake & Pond Management and Ken Ganley Subaru Wickliffe.
The event will feature a variety of hands-on activities and a FREE tree giveaway (while supplies last), plus opportunities for individuals of all ages to get involved in environmental stewardship.
โEarth Day is more than just a celebrationโitโs a call to action,โ said Lake Metroparks Deputy Chief of Outdoor Connections Caitlin Ambrose. โThis yearโs theme,ย Take Action, reminds us that every choice we makeโbig or smallโcan positively impact the future of our natural world.โ
Community partners and local conservation groups will be on site to share resources, volunteer opportunities, and ways to live more sustainably year-round. Attendees will also be able to browse nature-themed gifts at The Nature Store and shop fair-trade goods and merchandise at the Earth Day Marketplace. A local nursery will also be on hand selling native plants and flowers.
Special eco-friendly exhibits, games and crafts will be available for families to enjoy in addition to other staple Penitentiary Glen activities like scenic hikes, Nature Play and a spring art show. Animal ambassadors from the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center as well as livestock from Lake Metroparks Farmpark will be present for up-close animal encounters.
Miniature train rides will be offered courtesy of the Lake Shore Live Steamers, weather permitting. For safety reasons, pregnant women are not permitted to ride the trains. Children must sit on their own, no lap sitting permitted. No registration required.
