A Quintessential Cleveland Summer Staycation - The Cleveland Moms

After a pretty big June/July trip last year, we decided to keep things simple for August. It was my baseball loving son’s birthday & we figured it would be fun to play tourist in our own city so I booked us a night at the Residence Inn Downtown. I chose this hotel based off its close proximity to Progressive Field & having it connected to the 5th Street Arcades was super convenient! It’s also right around the corner from East 4th Street. (Reminder: none of these monthly trips were sponsored in any way.)

We got tickets to a Guardians game so before it was set to start, we went out for lunch at Mabel’s BBQ. We though the food was just okay & kind of on the pricey side but it was nice being able to walk back to the hotel to drop off the leftovers we had before the game. We also grabbed a slice at Geraci’s in the 5th Street Arcades.

The game we went to was a promo night & we each got a Manny Ramirez bobblehead.
Instead of lugging around 3 boxes, we figured it would be a good idea to drop them back off at the hotel & then come back for the game. In case you didn’t know, you’re able to leave Progressive Field & come back in. You can find details HERE – you just have to get your tickets scanned before you leave & enter a specific gate.

We spent some time before the game in the Family Deck. This section is up for some renovations so be sure to check the website before going to a game this season.

I highly recommend going to a game on fireworks night – the show is great!

After the game, we headed back to the hotel but for a more adventurous group, you could easily find something to do on East 4th. The Corner Alley is right there & could be fun. The next morning we headed home but there is a small diner inside of the 5th Street Arcades, Addys Diner. We’ve previously had breakfast there & thought it was reasonably priced & a good meal.

If a Cleveland staycation sounds like something you’d like to do, you could easily make it longer & do two nights. Explore all the museums & attractions.

The Attractions page HERE can definitely help with that!
