Slither into a wild world of discovery at Snakes, Turtles & More: A Herp’s Eye View, happening Sunday, June 29 from noon to 4pm at Penitentiary Glen Reservation. This immersive and sense-engaging event is full of hands-on exploration and fun for the whole family.
“This year’s theme focuses on the unique ways herptiles perceive their environment, from how a turtle sees its surroundings to how a snake detects its prey,” says Lake Metroparks Interpretive Naturalist Nicholas Gaye. “We want to demonstrate how these animals experience the world and highlight the fascinating adaptations that help them survive.”
Guests will have the opportunity to:
- Meet live reptiles and amphibians rehabilitated by the Herps Alive Foundation
- Attend animal chats featuring ambassadors from the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center
- Join guided habitat hunts with Lake Metroparks naturalists
- Enjoy interactive exhibits, sustainable crafts, and more
Miniature train rides will also be available courtesy of the Lake Shore Live Steamers, weather permitting. For safety reasons, pregnant women are not permitted to ride, and children must sit on their own (no lap sitting allowed.)
