Between the constant demands of kids, work and home life, it’s not uncommon for moms to put their own needs at the bottom of the never-ending To Do list. But when it comes to mental health, taking care of mom sometimes needs to come first!
It’s the proverbial airline instruction to put on your own oxygen mask before helping others. If you’re experiencing anxiety, depression or other mental health issues, it can be hard to help those around you, including those who need you most.
If you are struggling in any of these areas, Dr. Katherine Taljan may be able to help.
Specialized Care from a Fellow Mom
A board-certified psychiatrist (and fellow mom), Dr. Taljan offers specialized care for moms and other women with mental health concerns. Her areas of expertise include:
- Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, including postpartum depression and anxiety
- Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
- Perimenopausal mood and anxiety disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Posttraumatic stress disorder
- ADHD
Dr. Taljan has years of experience in managing psychiatric medications for adult women at all life stages, including during pregnancy and breastfeeding. She offers preconception consultations for women who are already taking psychiatric medications or who want to proactively address mental health concerns before pregnancy. She is also available for women who have experienced infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss.
A Custom Approach
There’s no one-size-fits-all model of motherhood, nor is there one face of maternal mental health. Each mom deserves a custom approach that honors her own unique history, experiences and values.
Dr. Taljan strives to work with her patients to understand their struggles and explore options for treatment. She incorporates psychotherapy into medication management visits and can also provide referrals to specialized therapists.
As a mom herself, she knows that family life is busy. That’s why she offers virtual and in-office appointments at a variety of times, including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
