Hi! My name is Monique Chavers. I am a wife and a mother of three (counting our puppy baby). I love everything that I do as a WOMAN. I work with teen and help them figure out life after high school. I also love being my children’s favorite professional football player.
Where are you originally from?
Toledo, OH
Where did you go to school & what is your current profession?
I went to University of Akron and CTU. I currently attend Benedictine University. In addition, I am completing a year of service through Americorp College Now of Greater Cleveland – College Guide. I am also a fitness and wellness consultant.
Where do you live today and how long have you lived in this area?
Warrensville Heights for the past 3 years.
How many children do you have & what are their ages?
I have 2 children. Their ages are 6 and 3.
What is your favorite thing about Northeast Ohio?
I enjoy all of the ongoing events in and around the area.
What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I was featured in a commercial back home for a local gym that I once trained at. The commercial was for Synergy Sports and Fitness
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Obtaining three post secondary degrees and starting my business.
What is your biggest failure?
Denying a partial athletic scholarship for track and field.
What is the one thing you’re most passionate about?
Mental health because whatever the mind thinks the body will follow.
How long have you been playing football & how did you get started?
This will be my third season. But, second year playing. I bet my husband after seeing Cleveland Fusion tickets on Groupon that I was going to tryout…. So, I did. Here I am today.
How do you balance work, training, games, and family?
With my support system in place, I have been able to pursue all things to the fullest. I believe that with time management, we all make time for the things we love most.
What is your favorite part about being a part of the Cleveland Fusion’s Team?
The extended family that I’ve gained. Also, being apart of something that is changing history and showing my babies that it’s okay to do something that others won’t do!
If you could give moms one piece of advice about getting their daughters into football, what would it be?
I would say do your research. Find an organization hat will teach her the game, promote equality, and teach about football safety.
Where do you see the future of Women’s professional football going?
As recognition continues to grow, I feel that women’s professional football is getting closer to being respected as much as men’s football in terms of support and acceptance.
Can you give us one pearl of wisdom?
Being a mom doesn’t stop you from pursuing your dreams or goals. It pushes you to do the extraordinary.
If you could encourage more people to take an action in some way, what would it be?
Small changes make a big impact. Serve your community. Give words of encouragement. Helpful advice to others can turn what may seem like a small deed might ignite something in someone else to change the world.
Is there anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
I would like to first thank my husband. He is always so supportive in all of my endeavors. I would also like to thank my parents and in-laws for all that they do! Without their support it would be a challenge to do all that I do!
